Trichomoniasis is the top on the list of infections transferred sexually. One-cell mechanism of trichomonad adapted to living in urinogenital system, moving through it thanks to its flagella. The human organism can be infected with three types of microbes: urinogenital, mouth and intestinal ones.
Urinogenital trichomonads dwell in human genitor-urinary system, dying outside. The optimal conditions for the reproduction is pH 5.5-6.5, therefore, the microbes are better reproduced in the menstruation time.
They are accompanied by clamydias, candidas and ureaplasmas. Gonococcuses may develop inside trichomonads causing the death of the latter or mixed infection.
The female trichomoniasis prospers in vagina, sometimes arising to urethra coming to Bartholin's glands. They rarely penetrate the bladder, neck of uterus and uterus.
The male trichomoniasis develops in urethra mucus resulting in parenchymatous prostatitis.
Trichomonads are transferred only sexually, however, there were cases of infecting through excretions on the linen or joint sharing a bath.
What are the trichomoniasis manifestations?
The trichomoniasis manifestations in males and females are different.
In female genitals trichomonada causes:
- colpitis (vagina inflammation):
- itching
- burning;
- reddening of genitals and perineum ;
- pruritic, frothy foul-smelling vaginal discharge;
- lower abdominal pain;
- discomfort during intercourse.
Infection that got into urethra and bladder results in pains during urination and frequent and also painful urination.
Men may not notice trichomonads availability infecting partners and not feeling the infection, Sometimes trichomonads cause inflammation in urethra, which manifests with white discharges and blood mixture in urine. Often trichomonad urethritis leads to prostatitis and finally to sterility. Sometimes trichomoniasis causes erosions on genitals in men and women.
How is trichomoniasis treated?
The treatment of trichomoniasis should be complex, including:
- anti-trichomonada drugs;
- general and local therapy;
- restoration of vagina microflora;
- immunity increase;
- treatment of sexual partner
- abstaining from sexual intercourses and alcohol during the treatment.
For trichomoniasis treatment antiprotozoal drugs are prescribed. They include nitroimidazoles suppressing DNA division, protein synthesis in microbe, which kills it. This group includes Tinidazole, Ornidazole, Secnidazole, Ternidazole.
However, when taking the drugs one should keep some rules:
- the drug intake during or after meals allows for decreasing of nitroimidazole drugs intolerance responses;
- the drug should be taken at equal periods of time, not exceeding the dose;
- the drug mustn’t be administered alongside with alcohol;
- treatment with vaginal tablets should be started on the 2-4th day of menstruation;
- one shouldn’t apply contact lenses during taking nitroimidazoles;
- general strengthening of the organism with
Echinacea, Immunal tincture will improve the treatment effect.
To prevent trichomoniasis, one can use preventive treatment after unprotected sexual intercourse. Without preventive treatment one should see the venereologist three-four weeks afterwards (after the incubation period is over). When continuing the relations with the partner, the medical examination should be performed together.
Prevention of venereal diseases is a reserve, not permanent approach that cannot (and should not) replace condom. Antibiotics do not protect against viruses, including
HIV.
